As in secula seculorum, the art of iconography is completely charming for the artist deep clinging to the unchanged aesthetic rules and fulfillment which cross through Time.
The icons, that may appear as static, remote, even inhuman images to the eye of the most, they truly become a door open to the Eternal to the ones who look intently with the eye of the Spirit.
Anna Maria Tondello, constantly absorbed in a neverending whisper with the Absolute, she portrays sacred images that extend to Perfection.
Her hallmark is cleanliness, pureness with sculpted details.
In Santa Scolastica Atelier, each icon is conceived and manufactured following primeval attainment techniques:
from the selection of the board to the application of natural materials, from the wise drafting of the bolus to the usage of the 24kt gold leaf, buffed with agate.
Gold is indeed, in all these icons, the primary light source: in front of it, the Soul mirrors, gaining its own inner brightness.
In Santa Scolastica Atelier, each board is carefully elected and characterized: it arises from the sensible hands of Mariangela Tondello to find its completion to those of her sister Anna Maria.
Mariangela devotes herself to the board arrangement: wood selection, anti-warping chocks back inserting, excavation of the image cradle, spreading of the rabbit-skin-glue imbibed canvas out and following 8-12 layers of plaster of Bologna. The whole will have to be perfectly polished and smoothed.
In this processing stage, the mark has to be imprinted on the plaster and all around will be laid various layers of bolus (a paste of red mold with gel fish) that will be also polished to receive the gold leaf, after having been smoothed with an agate burnisher.
Anna Maria can finally portray on the prepared wooden board.
The used pigments are natural: they are diluted in an emulsion composed with yawn and white wine, an ancient original recipe used in times, thus obtaining a mixture that makes the painting resistant through centuries.
To reach the density of the color, many steps are being required and a long, meticulous occupation.
During the icon painting, dark colors are the first to be accurately employed, to represent the Soul being immersed in Darkness, up to the brightest ones, epitomizing the enlightened Soul.
This technique is fit for use in different applications in the segments of interiors and design.
